The challenge of reaching the top together When Patricia shared her dream with us, we understood that she was determined to make it come true. Knowing that to reach the top you have to think big, train hard and be part of a team eager to make its way through unknown terrain, we were certain that she was the right person to support in this Dakar edition.  When it comes to endorsing a female Dakar Rally driver, we are not just backing an individual; we&#39;re supporting a symbol of resilience, breaking barriers, and inspiring change. Astara: the team with the lowest carbon footprint in Dakar’s history We support the Astara Team because we are convinced that the adventure can only continue in a clean environment. This team is an example that to leave a mark on people, it is not necessary to do so on the planet. Astara is recognized to be one of the most sustainable teams in Dakar because of its commitment to environmental responsibility. This will be the third consecutive year in which they take action by competing using E-fuel to achieve a completely neutral carbon footprint in its competition vehicles.  Additionally, as they have done in previous years, at the end of the competition, the team will measure, report, and offset the carbon footprint of the entire team. The first all-female duo led team At Hikko, we prioritize actions corresponding to SDG 13 (Action for climate) and SDG 5 (Gender equality) driven by our conviction that they open doors to possibilities, enhance parity, and show the way for those to come. It is the first time in the history of the Dakar that a team will be led by two female drivers in the T1/2 Ultimate category.  Patricia Pita is the first Uruguayan rally driver. She fought to make her dream come true and is working to spread an inspirational message to young women about the world of sport. Driving the dream: Hikko joins Patricia Pita’s run at the Dakar 2024

As climate change becomes one of the most urgent challenges of our time, more companies are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. Rodrigo Capdevielle, the CEO, points out that Hikko has become carbon neutral by neutralizing the CO2 emission of both the company and our team. We were chosen by Nexos+1, a platform working for Climate Action in Latin America, as a successful reference case from Uruguay in the LATAM Business Climate Action Report. This milestone demonstrates Hikko&#39;s commitment to sustainability and its role as a leading company in the fight against climate change. What does it mean to be Carbon Neutral? It means that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated by our company are fully offset by actions that reduce or eliminate equivalent emissions elsewhere. Measurement of CO2 emissions There are three levels or scopes to understanding companies emissions:   SCOPE 1: Direct EmissionsThose that came from activities owned or controlled by an organization.  Direct emissions are principally the result of the following types of activities: • Generation of electricity, heat, or steam.• Transportation of materials, products, waste, and employees.• Fugitive emissions. • Physical or chemical processing.  SCOPE 2: Indirect EmissionsThose released into the atmosphere are associated with the consumption of purchased electricity, heat, steam, and cooling. These indirect emissions are a consequence of an organization&#39;s energy use but occur at sources not owned or controlled. SCOPE 3: Other Indirect EmissionsThose that are a consequence of actions that occur at sources not owned or controlled and cannot be classified as Scope 2 emissions. Examples of Scope 3 emissions are business travel by means not owned or controlled by an organization, waste disposal, or materials or fuels an organization purchases. True Impact  Hikko has gone beyond the traditional measurement and developed a calculator that allows one to obtain each individual carbon footprint. This initiative widens the extension of Scope 3 and has enabled more accurate and detailed measurement of the CO2 emissions of each member of the company. <h1>In 2022, we generated and neutralized our footprint of 346 tons of CO2. 84 tons were issued by the company and the remaining 262 were issued by our team. </h1> Sophia Zeballos, Hikko&#39;s Sustainability Manager, underlines the importance of measuring, analyzing, and reporting on our Carbon Footprint is a crucial step that we, as companies, must take in the battle against climate change. Now more than ever, we need innovative solutions, with the IT industry playing a key role and leading the way. Our Scope 3 extension, which includes the footprint of our entire team, serves as a remarkable demonstration of this. Achieving carbon neutrality for the second year is a significant achievement for Hikko. It is proof of our strong commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. With this, Hikko demonstrates that companies can take an active role in the fight against climate change.
